OVERVIEW

The Isla Vista Compost Collective (IVCC) aims to make composting accessibletransform food waste into valuable compost for the community, and educate residents on sustainable practices to reduce landfill waste and promote effective waste management. IVCC seeks to effectively price, place, and market their compost, to residents in the greater Santa Barbara, Montecito, and Hope Ranch area, while identifying market gaps to establish a sustainable and profitable revenue stream.

We were tasked with revitalizing IVCC’s market expansion strategy during a 10 week period, focusing on researching sustainable compost packaging and developing a cohesive visual identity, including fonts, color palette, moodboard, and brand assets.

INTERVIEWS: A/B Testing

The interview phase of the project, lasting 3 weeks, involved coordinated email outreach, uniform interview flows, and scheduling and conducting interviews. Each 15 minute session followed a scripted set of questions tailored to the participant’s prior experience with compost purchases.

An A/B testing segment assessed consumer feedback on packaging options—burlap, plastic, paper bags, and jars.

Respondents favored burlap bags, citing their sustainability, compostability, and durability for holding large quantities.
